Only drizzled until about 8PM yesterday, then in about 5 minutes of rain and hail, accompanied by by lots of lightning and thunder, we got .40 inches of precipitation. Warm and sunny today.

FloydPerryThistle - 17 Oct 2006
Another week of beautiful "Indian Summer" with lovely fall colors as requested for a couple days visit by
Sid and her parents. Now overcast and rainy but not enough to record yet. We should be back to clearing and warmer by tomorrow
--
FloydPerryThistle - 16 Oct 2006
My goodness, the
WarmDrySeason may have come and gone since the last entry here! The poor old
CampRainRecord got swamped again, too. Well, here it is October and we had our first significant batch of rain. Things were still damp when I got to Camp on Tuesday, but no accumulation in the rain guage. Early Thursday morning the pitter patter started and by noon we had .42 inches. Now on Friday it is partly cloudy and warming up again. Campfires are being allowed in the Tahoe Natl. forrest but the fire season is still on - spotter plane has been flying all afternoon.
--
FloydPerryThistle - 06 Oct 2006
We left camp on Sunday evening, 26 Feb, as rain started to fall and came home about midnight last night, another storm later, to 3.69 inches in the rain guage. Still coming down - some hail - Lightning and thunder too. More than half of Februarys percipitation in it's last two days.
--
FloydPerryThistle - 28 Feb 2006
Periods of heavy snow - often in bright sunshine!
--
FloydPerryThistle - 18 Feb 2006
We actually woke up to a few inches of snow this morning. Maybe even a little more than the 2 - 5 inches predicted.
--
NatePerryThistle - 18 Feb 2006
We've just been through a week of 10°
below normal temperatures! Record lows were set all over
NorCal? including places like Redding, Red Bluff, and Executive Airport in Sacramento.
Right now, it's snowing at our house (about 2450' or so). NWS is calling for 1000' snow levels and the possibility of wet snow reaching the valley floor.
Fun stuff!
--
NatePerryThistle - 18 Feb 2006
Ten days later... we're pushing 70°, clear skies, and the flowers have decided it's spring.
--
NatePerryThistle - 10 Feb 2006
Front went through last night dumping rain and hail. Some lightning and thunder earlier. 35.0° at 0700 in our backyard-bedroom and lacy patterns of ice and hail frozen together on our decks.
--
FloydPerryThistle - 31 Jan 2006
We were away last weekend and it snowed! When we got back to around 2000 feet we began to see what we thought was hail, but turns out to have been snow. Because the top of my rain guage is flush with a railing my storm total of 2.27 inches may be somewhat off.
--
FloydPerryThistle - 18 Jan 2006
Up at 3 am to batten down the hatches! Over an inch of rain in the space of half an hour or so, but still in the high forties. Looks like a little break today - might get in a round of crolf here on the second day of Christmas.
--
FloydPerryThistle - 26 Dec 2005
It started raining about sunup on Christmas - mixed mesquite grill anyway! Still way warm but a cold front due soon.
--
FloydPerryThistle - 26 Dec 2005
Four waves later (see
CampRainRecord entries for 19 Dec thru 21 Dec) we are looking at another one today. Temperature at bedtime last night: 53° - this morning: 53° The three previous mornings: 48°
PineappleExpress? reigns! Will we get a break for Christmas?
--
FloydPerryThistle - 22 Dec 2005
We drove home from San Francisco last night in a torrential downpour with some fairly strong winds. This evening things are pretty calm but another wave is poised... 2.32 inches at 1600 18 Dec 05 (the signature time on this site is UTC

)
Oh yeah, Christmas arrived a little early and we now know not only the time (self setting) but also the temperature in our bedroom - 43° this morning! It's been around 40° most mornings this past week.
--
FloydPerryThistle - 19 Dec 2005
Alright, so it rained a little yesterday - all day. The ground got totally wet a couple of times but the droplets dried up in between and there was nothing to measure. A little sunshine breaking through today.
--
FloydPerryThistle - 08 Dec 2005
And again the forcast discussion has a great tid-bit this evening:
"THE LONGER RANGE FORECAST IS LESS CERTAIN AS THE MODELS STRUGGLE TO RESOLVE THIS UNUSUAL WEATHER PATTERN WITH WHAT IS EXPECTED CLIMATOLOGICALLY."
--
NatePerryThistle - 22 Nov 2005
The NWS says it all in todays
Area Forcast Discussion:
AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SACRAMENTO CA
900 AM PST MON NOV 21 2005
.DISCUSSION...
NO NOTABLE CHANGES EXPECTED TO THE CURRENT FORECAST PACKAGE. STRONG
HIGH PRESSURE REMAINS OVER THE ENTIRE WESTERN U.S. AND IS RESULTING
IN WARMER THAN NORMAL AFTERNOON HIGH TEMPERATURES AND NO
PRECIPITATION. THIS PATTERN LUKS TO CONTINUE THROUGH THE WEEK WITH
THE EARLIEST SIGNS OF A BREAK DOWN OF THE PATTERN OCCURRING ON
FRIDAY. PATCHY FOG AND INCREASING LEVELS OF HAZE WILL OCCUR IN THE
CENTRAL VALLEYS BUT OTHERWISE THE QUIET WEATHER CONTINUES.

More like rain now - finally got to .10 inch about 7PM.
--
FloydPerryThistle - 08 Nov 2005
FireSeason ends - see article in The
Union. Raining all day but still less than .10 inch at 5PM.
--
FloydPerryThistle - 08 Nov 2005
Yes, all the way up to 1.26 inches for Oct - might be enough to call wet.
--
FloydPerryThistle - 28 Oct 2005
All day, it seems, the clouds have ever so gently run aground all around us. I suspect the rain totals will creep up a little more...
--
NatePerryThistle - 27 Oct 2005
We were ready for the rain this time

, but only .16 inches fell. Still, it feels a little like the
CoolWetSeason kind of day.
--
FloydPerryThistle - 26 Oct 2005
Jumped out of bed this morning just before getting up time (nobody actually looked at a clock) to haul pads, tools, toys, etc. under cover. Only enough sprinkle to wet the surface.
--
FloydPerryThistle - 19 Oct 2005
Another shower about 3PM, mostly sunny. Beautiful day.
--
FloydPerryThistle - 16 Oct 2005
Gentle rain early this morning. It went on steadily for quite a while so I was not surprised to
record 4 tenths of an inch.
NWS had predicted only .10 to .25
--
FloydPerryThistle - 15 Oct 2005
I've restored the Northern California visable thumbnail for you. The path had changed on the remote server.
--
NatePerryThistle - 06 Oct 2005
We happened to be driving accross the Northern Sacramento Vally last night and the lightning strikes were stunning to watch from a distance, as well.
--
NatePerryThistle - 27 Sep 2005
What a great light show we had last night! Hundreds of lightning strikes per hour - sometimes continuous thunder. Over .3 inches of torrential rain in the first storm shortly after sunset then several more cells visited and the sky continued to be lit by lightning near and far into the early hours this am. Spectacular sunrise. Storm total: .7 inches
--
FloydPerryThistle - 27 Sep 2005
Okay, so finally an update! (And
NatePerryThistle should feel free to update this page at any time - the weather in his neighborhood is pretty much like here. Also
Floyd wonders what happened to the California visable thumbnail?)
And now the update - sprinkled this morning for a few minuets around 3:16 and again about 4:00 - just about enough to get everything surface wet.
--
FloydPerryThistle - 26 Sep 2005
NatePerryThistle has been wondering why this page hasn't been updated what with our somewhat unusual weather pattern lately. Well, it just hasn't been happenning, that's all.
Yes, unusually wet and cool still. The lows just keep coming out of the gulf of Alaska and parking off the coast of California instead of hanging out around Brithish Columbia and Washington State.
FireSeason has begun, however, as of 06 June 2005. But is it the
WarmDrySeason yet??
--
FloydPerryThistle - 21 Jun 2005
Days and days now of rain but the end may be in sight. Check out the "
Forcast Discuassion" from the Natonal Weather Service for today. Spring for 2 or 3 days and then the
WarmDrySeason begins?
--
FloydPerryThistle - 19 May 2005
Lots of thunder and lightning last night! Nearly 1˝ inches from this storm.
Joy says like a vacation on the coast but
David is "tired of living in Seattle".
--
FloydPerryThistle - 09 May 2005
Snowing big time! Huge flakes and clusters of flakes falling from the sky. A few weeks ago the falling cherry blossoms made us feel like we were inside one of those little glass ball environments, but this definitely looks blizzard-like. Except it's not sticking much yet. Weather man says thunder showers possible this afternoon. I wonder...
--
FloydPerryThistle - 08 Apr 2005
First Rain in February today. Started early, but only showered occasionally - .10 inch by 5:45 PM - a lovely Spring day.
A Note About January Rain:
Things went from bad to worse as the rain led to some down time on our phone line resulting in more lost data. When I obtain the Nevada City records I will post them instead of my "wild guess"'
--
FloydPerryThistle - 08 Feb 2005
We got "snowed out" by a few inches of the white stuff on New Year's Eve and when we finally got got home on
NewYearsDay? the rain gauge said 5.34 inches! Obviously too much. Melting snow from the railing on which it is mounted must have contributed a considerable amount to the total.

The official nevada City total will have to be found and inserted in the
CampRainRecord. On and off rain and snow continuing . . .
--
FloydPerryThistle - 03 Jan 2005
The beautiful weather held through Christmas - many days of
Crolfing. Then the clouds rolled in, the temps dropped and we had some wind. No real percipitation though until the 27th - on and off rain since (see
CampRainRecord). More of the same in the forcast with snow a possibility by New Year's Eve (should that be a new topic?) Check
here for the latest weatherman musings.
--

FloydPerryThistle - 18 Sep 2004

--
FloydPerryThistle - 10 May 2004
Well, it was an absolutely beautiful March - mild and record breaking warm all over Northern California. No pictures of cherry blossoms coverd with snow and ice this year. But we may yet see some major storms - it is still the
