Welcome to Camp Augustine!

Click to go to the Red Barn 22 Jun 04 topic. A converted barn, "rebuilt" from the crumbling ruins of the original at the Agostini Ranch serves as home to Joy and Floyd, and a haven for family and friends. We are favorably situated in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada on the west side of a knoll just below the South rim of the South Fork of the Yuba River with a view of the Coast Range, fifty to seventy-five miles across the Sacramento Valley.

Campers are always welcome, e-mail joy@perry-thistle.net or floyd@perry-thistle.net to make your reservation.

Things to know:

  • Camp Augustine is clothing optional. In the warm dry season you will need very little. In the cool wet season, plan to be warm and dry for fun in the snow, usually not far away, sometimes right here at 2641 feet (805 meters) elevation. Check CampWeather for details and current weather links.
  • Bring your preferred breakfasts, lunches, and snacks. Dinner is always communal and pot-luck.
  • Bring musical instruments, toys, games (we have many of the usuals), books, binoculars, cameras, toys of the season or ???
  • Nothing is proscribed except abusive and destructive attitudes and practices.

Activities

  • Play Crolf, a form of CrossCountryCroquet, on our nine wicket (par 23) course.
  • Swim in The Big Pond? or The River. Or any of hundreds of other ponds, rivers, lakes, (including LakeTahoe?) and resevouirs within seventy-five miles or so.
  • Hike the neighborhood, to TheRiver, nearby communities, in Western Nevada County, NevadaCity? and GrassValley?, or hundreds of miles of trails in adjoining TahoeNationalForest.
  • Take on a project?. It's always fun to be doing somebody else's work and there is no end of that here. Joy "rock gardens" on a daily basis, GardenJournal?, and can always use help. Some, (Nate and Kathia) build StoneWalls?.
  • SkyWatch. We have a large sky and not too much light polution.
* Walk the Labyrinth? "Go in circles and see where you come out" - Joy

  • "Nothing" is also on the do list, so relax and enjoy the constant entertainment provided by the WildLifeReserve, another of our favorite names for home.
