Trivia note: In the Trivia section of the [[][Wikipedia]] article on Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris it mentions that Jonathan grew up in Grass Valley, CA. The word from the NUTS kids in "The Grapes of Wrath" production I was recently in is that he was president of the organization one year.

Floyd gives it two thumbs up and says: This is one the best I've seen! I loved every minute of it. smile

Little Miss Sunshine

Ruthe Stein, Chronicle Senior Movie Writer gave it a excellent rating and said:

...There's no more fitting final destination than California, the land of promise for generations of families seeking to improve their lot. But "Little Miss Sunshine" is really more about getting there. You'll be delighted, if a bit breathless from laughing, to be along for the ride.

The review:

Michael Sragow of the Baltimore Sun said:

"__Dazzling 'Sunshine'__ - This delicious farce packs powerful observations on what it takes to be a family "

Ken Fox writing for TV Guide gave it 5 stars and said:

"What makes husband-and-wife directing team Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris' hilarious debut such a great family film isn't that it's suitable for the whole family (it's not), but that it speaks a simple truth about what it means to be part of one. No matter how screwed up they may seem, sometimes they're all you've got."

On a Clear Day

About a man who gets laid off and then decides to swim the English Channel as a way to resolve his issues. I liked it a lot. Great secondary characters.

Pride and Prejudice (the BBC version presented by A&E)

Frought with societal pressures and gripping drama, this is the heartfelt story of Eliza and Mr. Darcy, classically played by Colin Firth. This was a movie I picked but, much to my shock and amazement, Nate loved this one too. I mean he loved it. But he's sensitive.

Nate doesn't like the title to this page. In fact, the second he saw it, he started listing all the other possible titles. So if you have a suggestion, make it.

Oh--also, if someone wants to categorize the movies, please feel free.

Après Vous

Fun! About a guy (Daniel Auteuil) who stops another guy from killing himself and then becomes responsible for him. Okay, that doesn't sound fun, but I promise you it was quite entertaining.

-- KathiaZolfaghari - 10 Dec 2005

Armageddon

We just bought this--why did we wait so long?? Classic cheese! It's got it all, from Bruce Willis to crap blowing up to Aerosmith in space .

Emma

Another entertaing Jane Austin adaptation. Quite funny.

"I love Jane!"

Deadwood Season one

HBO Films... great dark and nasty series, not for children or anyone offended by filthy language and intense violence. Also includes graphic nudity. But the show is great. I might need a baby sitter when season 2 comes out!

How about calling it "watch these films that will make you want to go out and buy a 60" DLP plamsa high definition super T.V. and not worry about the price". It works for me!

Marilyn Hotchkiss Ballroom Dancing & Charm School

A beautiful, touching picture with a little dancing, but not too much to be scary.

It's a 2 disc set. Make sure you rent the correct one first (it was tricky).

This version has some picture perfect shots, and the main characters are deep and interesting. The story is a bit shorter than the A&E version (maybe you don't have six hours to devote?) and the secondary character development is lacking in some ways because of it.
